Regional tournament kicks off

With the arrival of teams from the CNMI, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, the opening ceremony for the East Asia Regional Tournament took place yesterday morning at Paseo Stadium. The ceremony marked the beginning of the junior, senior, and big league games.

Public hearing set for FY2008 budget

The chairman of the Legislative Committee on Finance & Taxation has scheduled a public hearing on Bill 143. Budget hearings are slated to begin on Tuesday, July 3 at 10 in the morning at the Legislative Public Hearing Room in Hagatna.

Tax amnesty program now over

The Department of Revenue & Taxation’s amnesty program came to a close today. While the Camacho Administration projected the initiative would bring in an additional $30 million, Rev & Tax’s Paul Pablo told KUAM News last week that so far only a total of $2.94 million has been collected to date.

Rector gathering furlough appeals from union members

The Guam Federation of Teachers continues to collect individual Civil Service Commission furlough appeal forms. GFT president Matt Rector says classified employees must submit the forms in order to be protected from any illegal furloughs, telling KUAM News, “Right now we’ve had a lot from UOG support staff because they’re the first ones that are going to be furloughed.
